Masterclass: Odin Rathnam – Til Anker’s Minde
07.06.2024
— 00:00
MasterClass ledet at Odin Rathnam.
English
Internationally Acclaimed violinist and Pedagogue, Odin Rathnam is the nephew of Anker Buch, who passed away ten years ago.
Mr. Rathnam, in addition to studying and performing with Anker Buch since childhood, also was an eleven-year faculty member at Buch’s now legendary summer courses on the Island of Mors, which a group of former students intend to revive in the summer of 2025, with Mr. Rathnam. He was also the creative force behind the 2010 surprise 70th Birthday celebration concert in Oddfellow Palace for Anker Buch, where 350 guests and a veritable “Who’s Who” of top Scandinavian string players assembled to celebrate Buch’s enduring legacy through music.
Over a period of 21 years, Anker Buch trained and inspired generations of string players, many of whom went on to elite careers in Scandinavia and Worldwide, Including Sir Lars Bjørnkjær, Nikolaj Znaider, Niklas Walentin, Susanja Beatrix Nielsen, David Bogorad, Odin Rathnam, Christian Hørbov Meier, Mads Tolling, and many other distinguished players, teachers and arts administrators, all inspired by Buch’s altruistic beliefs that music is for everyone and anyone could benefit from the Creative Process. The courses therefore welcomed amateurs, folk musicians, Suzuki students, conservatory students and professional artists in an incredibly nurturing environment where all were respected and met at whatever point of their musical journey they found themselves. All this while Buch followed Galamian’s mission to “Bring this knowledge home to Denmark and share it with all levels.” (Galamian told Anker this, after he won the first Jacob Gade Prize in 1964 and made his acclaimed Town Hall Debut.)
Since 2010 Odin Rathnam has presented his MasterClass series “Lost in translation- Demystifying the Principles of Ivan Galamian in Practical Application” at programs in Scandinavia, Portugal, Canada, Asia, Dubai, and at conservatories and Universities across the United States, including at his Alma Mater, The Juilliard School, for the 2013 Starling DeLay Symposium. He appears regularly as a soloist, recitals and chamber musician world-wide and is a professor of violin at Cleveland.
